Closets

The best place to start in your closet is to get rid of clutter. Organize your closet by first putting everything by category. Example, shoes matched, by season (winter and summer), dress clothes, by length and play clothes. Measure your closet space and install two rods one above the other. This will eliminate wasted space in your closet. On these rods you can hang women's blouses, jackets, slacks and short skirts or mens dress slacks, shirts, and pants. Longer items will hang on a single higher rod. For your sweaters and shoes you may want to add a shelf.

The proper distance for the upper rod is about 82" from the floor. The lower rod should be approximately 42" from the floor. Your closet organizer or materials for organizing you closet at your local hardware store for example Lowes, Home Depot you may also look at Closet World. You may purchase already made closets online instead of purchasing a kit and doing it yourself.

The materials come in three types, coated wire, wood, and melamine. Depending on your budget wire is least expensive and easily customizable. Usually one can find accessories and add-ons. Wood is more expensive yet will compliment your closet yet may require more skill to install. Melamine is similar to wood yet costs less.

Prepackaged kits are available and are more economical than buying individual parts. The kits usually include what you will need to do a 5 to 8 foot wide closet. Extra parts and shelving are available if you need it.

At the hardware stores you can purchase the wire shelving by the linear foot if you do not want to use a kit. Most stores will cut it to the size needed. When purchasing your parts it is best to purchase from the same manufacturer.

The wire shelves should have continuous sliding rods this will allow hangers to move uninterrupted across the entire bar. Sometimes you will find them without rods called linen shelves, usually with closer mesh.

The tools needed for your closet kits are a drill, screwdriver and hammer.

Hiring a contractor to install closet

You should have the measurements of the closet you are planning on organizing. Also have your clothes separated by length and season. This way when the contractor shows up you will already have an inventory of your needs. The contractor will design the closet for your needs. Always check references and have price quotes to compare.

When you are ready to purchase your closet the contractor will come to your home and install your closet with little or no mess. The advantage to hiring a contractor is that you do not have to do the work yourself, and they know how to design and measure precisely. Most of all, the job is done in less time.
